Johnny Bivera Named NPPA Military Liaison For MPOY

DURHAM, NC (October 25, 2010) – Freelance photojournalist Johnny Bivera of Washington, DC, has been named as the National Press Photographers Association’s new Military Liaison to the Military Photographer of the Year competition and workshop that is hosted annually by the United States Defense Information School.

Bivera replaces long-time NPPA volunteer Chip Maury, who served NPPA in this role twice. Maury was Military Liaison for 8 years until Ken Cooke was appointed in 1992, and then Maury returned to the position in 1997 and served for another 13 years.

Involved in the MPOY contest since 1991 when he entered the competition while serving in the U.S. Navy as a 3rd Class Petty Officer photojournalist, Bivera has served the effort since 1998 in a supporting capacity.
